Kanye West Accuses Adidas Of Doing Yeezy Day Without His Approval
“Adidas made up the Yeezy Day idea without my approval”
Kanye West appears to be unhappy about the Yeezy Day celebrations, the brand-created holiday for the Adidas Yeezy line that’s observed annually on Aug. 2.
In a direct message to the Complex Instagram account pictured below, West shared his disapproval of Yeezy Day by saying that “Adidas made up the Yeezy Day idea without my approval,” and it didn’t stop there. According to West, the brand also re-issued older Adidas Yeezy styles, designed Yeezy colorways, and hired employees for the line—including the general manager of Yeezy, without his approval.
West also shed light on his ongoing partnership with Balenciaga and Gap, claiming that Adidas slowed down the production of the casual sneakers he and Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia created for Gap despite the footwear not breaching his contract with the Three Stripes.
West goes on to say that when he approached Adidas to produce more pairs of his ever-popular Yeezy Slides, the brand said “they didn’t have the capacity meanwhile Adidas was copying my slides and making their own version of the Yeezy Slides,” referring to the Three Stripes’ new Adilette 22 Slides that he aired his grievances on in June.
Yeezy Day first took place in 2019 and since then, the brand has saved some of its most anticipated Yeezy drops for the event. This year’s Yeezy releases began at 10 a.m. ET today with the release of the “Utility Black” Yeezy 450. Additional Yeezy styles will continue to drop via the Confirmed app and at Yeezysupply.com at the top of each hour.
Adidas declined to comment on the matter in response to Complex’s request.
